Small Spuds Childcare

General Information

    1.How many children, including their own, will be the provider be caring for?
          o We are licensed for 12 children in our home.  We have 2 children of our own that are in school full time.  
    2.Is the provider operating legally?
          o Yes, we are licensed by the City of Boise.
    3. Are there parent contracts?
          o Yes, we give that to you when you tour our facility, or we can email it before the tour.
    4. What are the vacation policies and schedules?
          o We are closed for New Years, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the Day after, and             Christmas Break which is from Dec 25th through Jan 1st.
    5. Are parent references available?
          o Yes, they are available if requested.
    6. How long has the provider been providing child care?
          o We are going into our 3 year of business, but Tami has been taking care of children since she was 12.
    7. What is the staff turnover rate?
          o We have never had any turnover. The staff on hand will always be Tami and Larry.
    8. How many children are enrolled? What ages?
          o Currently we have 12 children enrolled with ages ranging from 8 Months to 8 years.
    9. What system is in place to ensure that only you or an individual you authorize may pick up your child?
          o Since we are a small in Home Childcare we are able to know all the parents and no one will be able to pick up             a child without prior authorization from a parent of that child!
    10. Are there written policies on discipline, health, fees?
          o Yes there are.  We give a Parent Handbook to parents when they tour the facicity, we can also email a copy             before a tour if requested.
    11. What if your child becomes ill?
          o That is outlined in our illness policy in the Parent Handbook
    12. Is there a trial period?
          o Yes, 2 weeks.
    13. Can we hold a spot for our child?
          o Yes, we allow parents to hold spots for infants.  The cost of holding the spot is $50 for each month you are             holding the spot.  If your child does not start on the agreed upon date, you forfiet your spot and the money             paid to hold the spot.  

Program

    1. How is the day structured? Are times scheduled for free play, structured activities, meals, quiet times, naps,             and outdoor play?
         o That is also outlined in our Parent Handbook.
    2. What is the policy on TV watching?
           o We only turn on the TV in rainy day situations and all programming is age appropriate and educational.
    3. Are nutritious meals and snacks provided? Are menu plans posted?
          o Yes and Yes, menus are posted weekly and Breakfast, Lunch and 2 snacks are provided daily. Click here for                            information on the USDA Food Program
    4.  Are meals and snacks, including infant feedings, offered in a way that encourages social interaction?
          o Yes, we hold infants while they are being fed their bottles. The older children are seated family style at a                 table during meals and snacks.

Environment

    1.  Is it a nonsmoking environment?
          o Yes, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy place for children to be.

Infant Care

    1.  Does each infant have an assigned crib that meets current safety standards?
          o Yes, all infants are assigned a personal crib for use at nap times.
    2.  Is there a sanitary diaper-changing area with handwashing facilities?
          o Yes, all diapers are changed in the changing area which has a sink nearby.
    3.  Does the provider spend time holding, talking to, and playing with each baby?
          o Yes, we believe that all children need time each day that they are held and loved.

Provider Health and Safety

    1.  Is the provider 18-years-old or older?
          o Yes
    2.  Is the provider trained in first aid? CPR?
          o We are both trained in CPR and First Aid. CPR is renewed yearly and the First Aid is renewed every 2                     years.
    3.  Are guns kept in the house?
          o No.
    4. Are toxic items stored safely out of reach? (Cleaning supplies, pain, medicines, cosmetics, poisonous plants, etc.)
          o Yes, all cleaning supplies and other items are either stored in a locked cabinet or in the garage.
    5.  Are electrical outlets covered?
          o Yes.
    6.  Are sanitary guidelines for storage, preparation, and serving of food followed?
          o Yes, not only do we make sure that all food is prepared in a safe manner, but we are inspected by the Health                              Department to ensure we continue with these safe fod handeling practices.

Parents

   1.  Is there any open-door policy that welcomes your visits, participation, and input?
          o Yes, parents are welcome to stop by and see their children during the day. We do ask that during nap time                 from 1-3 we keep visits to a minimum.  Not only is your child asleep, but visits during nap time disrupt the                 sleep of other children.
    2. How is communication encouraged between parents and the provider? (Daily conversations, newsletters,                     conferences, etc?)
          o We have a monthly newsletter and daily communication when you pick up your child!
